Most Impressive Golf Records At The Pro Level

Golf Records At The Pro Level

This article will cover some of the greatest golf records ever held at the professional level. You may recognise some of the big name golfers but other golfers on this list are not very well known or heard of. Kudos to you if you have!

Most PGA Tour Wins

The PGA Tour is one of the first things that come to your mind when you hear people talk of Professional Golf. The PGA Tour is the organizer for all of the professional golf tours that are played by men in North America. It was founded in 1929 and has transformed into a massive spectacle that receives tons of media coverage and recognition. Having the most PGA Tour wins is an accolade a lot of Professional golfers wish to accomplish. Which leads to the question… who is the man to hold this prestigious golf record?

Jack Nicklaus with 73 Wins

Jack Nicklaus known as the “Golden Bear” and noted as one of the greatest golfers in the history of this sport, for a lot of his accolades. On top of 73 PGA Tour wins, he also accumulated a total of 113 professional wins throughout his career. He is no stranger to holding golf records.

Runners Up:

2nd: The late great Ben Hogan with 64 wins

3rd: Arnold Palmer with 62 wins

Longest Golf Drive In History

When researching current golf records held by the professionals, it was crucial to include the man who has the  furthest golf drive in history.

So Who Did It?

Mike Austin

In 1974 Mike Austin hit a ball off the tee and drove it 515 yards! This was done at the professional level, at the U.S National Senior Open in Las Vegas, Nevada.

His golf swing has become known as “The Mike Austin Swing”. Not a very creative name of course but there’s great meaning to that swing as it’s taught by many professional golfers to this day.

When looking at different professional golf swing styles, it appears there are little unique differences that separate the greats of the game from everyone else. Perhaps Mike Austin’s golf swing is unique in it’s own way that produces such great distance in his golf shot.

Golf Records

Most Major Championship Wins

Having the most major championship wins might be one of the most impressive golf records a man can hold. It even more so looks that way when you look at the fact that this number isn’t very big and the majority of runners up to this record have a fraction of it.

This one may come not as a shocker as it’s again Jack Nicklaus with 18

Runners Up:

2nd: Tiger Woods with 15

3rd: Walter Hagen with 11

4th: Ben Hogan with 9

It’s definitely worth recognition that there’s a man withing reasonable approach to this record and his name is Tiger Woods. He has age on his side and he’s only 3 away from tying Jack Nicklaus. It seemed like he was going to blow this record away early on in his career but now he’s starting to put that to question and it’s starting to look unlikely.

Given the fact that Tiger is now 44 years of age as we stand and the oldest player to ever win a major was Julius Boros at the age of 48. Tiger being at 15 Majors and slowly heading towards his older days, it makes it look that much harder to believe he will surpass Jack Nicklaus, however the possibility is still there.

Best Score In A Round

As you may know, having the best possible score in golf really means having the lowest score and it’s not very easy to get a good score in golf. Some of the professionals shoot outstanding rounds of golf on a consistent basis but having the lowest winning score in a round of golf is something to be proud of.

The best score ever posted in a round of golf (in a PGA tour tournament) at the professional level is 58

And the man to do it is Jim Furyk

Jim actually had a chance to make this score a 57 but just missed the hole on his second last put to end the round. Not only was this round very impressive, but he also has another sub-par round of golf with a score of 59.

Jim is the only golfer to get a score of 58 but he is joined with a few other pro golfers who have also scored a 59 in a round.

Other Golfers at the PGA Tournament who shot 59 in a round

  • Al Geiberger
  • Chip Beck
  • David Duval
  • Paul Goydos
  • Stuart Appleby
  • Justin Thomas
  • Adam Hadwin
  • Brandt Snedeker

Keep in mind that these scores are done only at the professional level and there have been lower recorded scores in history compared to the ones seen above. The lowest score ever recorded is 55 and has been recorded by four total people. There’s an article you can check out that goes over the lowest 18 hole Golf score ever recorded in history.
